The TextilesOf the many textiles made in Africa today, there are a hand-full of tribal textiles that are known for their authenticity. These were prized and still are the “premiere” textiles of Africa due to their cultural significance and fine workmanship. Worn in ceremonies, to barter for goods, as everyday clothing, for household comfort, to convey status and as a tradition passed down through generations—they are uniquely African. They seem modern, yet ancient, and have wide appeal both in representing their origins and as stand-alone works of art. These are the textiles African Woven Arts seeks out.
This page has links to the story of each textile and photos of them. You can get an impression of the range of color, ways they are used and aproximate sizes. While individual pieces seen on the site may not be available any longer (do inquire) I can source similar textiles for you. I also give you a idea of pricing, although each piece will be priced individually. |
